An amazing freshwater goby from east Asia.  I wish a had a few of this.  These guys seem really amazing.  The males and females look very different.  I am not sure if any has bread gobies in an aquarium.  But I think they are great looking.  I'll need to look for them for sale. So far I have not seen any in stores.

Snow Blizzard in April!!!

It's the end of the world.  We are having snow blizzard at the end of April!!!.  Everything is flowering and blooming, and than bam!!! A snow storm.  It's the most insane thing ever. I was getting ready for summer and everything.  So weird to see flowering trees covered in snow.  If you are wondering where I am , I am in Tiraspol (Transnistria).  Now I am certain that we live on borrowed time now)))

This is what I saw our of my window when I woke yesterday

Snow Covered Buckeyes

Yes, these are flowering buckeyes covered in snow!!!!

So weird.  I can't believe it. I guess, we won't have any fruits this years.  Kind of sad too.

Kentucky Cave Shrimp (Palaemonias ganteri)

Check this out.  These shrimps live right near my former home state of Ohio.  Well, they are in Kentucky, but it's only across the river))).  The Kentucky cave shrimp or Palaemonias ganteri is an eyeless and completely pigmentless troglobite specie. This amazing shrimp lives in caves in the Warren County of Kentucky. It has not pigment or eyes, just like many other troglobite species of animals.

It's main habitat is exclusively in underground streams of caves. Kentucky cave shrimp can easily be found in Mammoth Cave National Park if you look around.  It feeds mainly on sediments that are washed into the cave by the movement of groundwater.  Unfortunately, as with many other cave species, this cave shrimp is endangered.  There is no chance of getting this guys for your shrimp tank. I guess, if you have a bunch of money, you can pay someone to smuggle it out of the cave.  However, you would be able to brag about having, or you would get arrested)))

Here is some internet inf on on Palaemonias ganteri

The Kentucky cave shrimp was registered as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act in 1983, and was included on the IUCN Red List as Endangered in 1994. There are currently only several thousand remaining. It is mostly threatened by contaminated groundwater running into its habitat.  Several nearby communities either have inadequate sewage treatment facilities or lack such facilities altogether. An additional potential threat is the entry of contaminants from traffic accidents and roadside businesses. One incident in 1979 caused the death of aquatic cave organisms in a part of the Mammoth Cave system, and in a 1980 incident, a truck carrying toxic cyanide salts overturned on Interstate 65, just south of Mammoth Cave Nation

New Fishing Photos

This is the only fish I have managed to take a decent photo of. It's Silver Bream or Blicca bjoerkna. We actually go 3 of them, but all my photos turned out to be really crappy. We also got one wild goldfish Crucian carp or Carassius carassius.  Anyway, no a lot of interesting fish, but I've enjoyed being out on the river.

Me with my had and glasses.  My regular uniform to protect myself from sun

Dniester River: looks pretty nice)))

New Aquarium Project

My friend is starting a new aquarium project.  Just came back from his apartment where I've helped him set it up.   It's a 200 liter tanks with 3 30watt lights.  Oh, there won't be any cover, so I can only hope that there won't be any escapes from fish))).   There will be more driftwood and plants eventually.  They are kind of hard to get here in Tiraspol (you have to go to Odessa or Kishinev to get anything aquarium related).  This aquarium will be home to some cherry shrimp (Neocaridina davidi var. red) and some rabbit snails (Tylomelania sp).

Side View: Check out the home made DIY lights.  They were sold as an outdoor LED lights

Spring is here!!!! Finally!!!

It's finally here, Spring!!!!  Check out these cool flowering apple trees.  Amazing. It's like this everywhere in Tiraspol.  They smell amazing too.  It should be like this year round.  I am not even sure why we have winter. I guess, nature wasn't very smart when creating it))))
