3 Species of Goby and More: Dniester River






Finally, a great fish collecting trip to Dniester River in Transnistria.  Lots of different fish.  More importantly, we got 3 different goby species and one weather loach.

  1. Just a heads up, loach doesn't look to be a "weather loach" (Misgurnus sp.), it looks like it is from the Cobitis genus (possibly Cobitis taenia).

    Cobitis are such cool loaches! Cobitis are peaceful and can burrow, which is cool to see! Weather loaches get bigger and are pretty wreckless, bumping into whatever is in their path especially during a feeding frenzy.

    As far as I know, most Cobitis are in Asia, but I do believe some can be found in Europe/Russia regions. Weather loaches can be problematic if introduced to non-native areas, they are invasive in the US.

  2. You are right, I'll change that. It does look like Cobitis. I really wanted to keep it, but i dont have an aquarium right now
